Materials and Structures

We build wine packaging from a short list of materials that hold up in shipping and on shelf. Solid wood and faux wood boxes lead the range. For buyers who do not need solid wood, rigid board, leather and bag materials offer lighter weight and lower cost without losing structure.

Board standard for wine boxes

We build on greyboard at 1200 g minimum. For spirits, we recommend 1400 g greyboard. Facing paper runs 157 g minimum, specialty or coated. We do not use recycled greyboard or high-moisture paper. This keeps box bodies flat, corners firm, and bottle weight supported through shipping and retail display handling.

Six common materials

Greyboard with specialty paper

Used for rigid lid-and-base boxes and double-door boxes where solid wood is not needed. The greyboard carries the structure and the specialty paper gives the outside face.

Kraft paper

Used for foldable boxes, shipping boxes and wine bag exteriors. It takes print well and keeps material cost down.

White card

Used for folding cartons and printed wine bags where a clean white background helps color match. It is light but stiff enough for single-bottle gift packaging.

Gold/silver cardboard

Used as facing on rigid boxes and drawer boxes for metallic finishes. It gives a foil-like look without changing the board structure.

Flocked paper

Used on insert trays and box interiors. The short fiber surface cushions the bottle and reduces sliding against paper or glass.

Leather-textured paper

Used on leather-look boxes and bags. It gives the hand feel of leather at a lower material cost than genuine leather.

Six box structures

Rigid lid-and-base

A two-piece box with a separate lid and base, used for premium single-bottle wine and spirits.

Magnetic closure

A lid-and-base or book-style box with magnets set into the board, used for a clean close without a visible clasp.

Drawer

A box with a sliding tray that pulls out from an outer sleeve, often used for two-bottle sets.

Foldable

A box that ships flat and erects before packing, used to save freight volume on lighter gift boxes.

Double-door

A box with two front panels that open from the center, used for display sets and collector packaging.

With handles

A box with a carry handle built into the structure, used for gift boxes that need to be carried after purchase.

Four insert types

Velvet tray

A rigid tray with a soft velvet or flocked surface, used to hold a bottle at four points inside rigid boxes.

EVA foam

A dense foam insert cut to the bottle profile, used when the bottle shape is tall, heavy or fragile.

Blister

A clear molded tray that shows the bottle shape while holding it firmly, used for retail display boxes.

Paper mould (moulded pulp)

A molded fiber tray made from paper pulp, used when the buyer wants a fiber-based insert that still holds the bottle firmly.
