Faux Wood Wine Boxes

Not every wine box has to be solid wood. Faux wood gives you the same warm look on a rigid board base, with less weight and a lower cost per unit. It is a practical option for gift sets, retail shelves, and direct shipping where real wood is not required.

We make faux wood boxes with printed or laminated wood-grain surfaces over greyboard. The finish is consistent from box to box, and the structure still takes a two-bottle insert with the same fit rules we use on solid wood.

How to Choose

If the box will be handled often or shipped long distances, check the board weight. We use greyboard at 1200 g minimum, with 1400 g recommended for heavier bottles like spirits. Facing paper is 157 g minimum specialty or coated.

Think about the insert before the outer finish. A bottle should be held at four points, with no unsupported neck or shoulder. We shake each loaded box for ten seconds, tilt it 45 degrees, and invert it. If the bottle moves, the insert is adjusted.

Wood-grain finishes vary. Some buyers want a printed grain that matches a specific species, others want a leather-textured paper with wood accents. Send a reference image or Pantone number and we match it on the facing paper.

Is faux wood as strong as solid wood?

Faux wood uses rigid greyboard, not timber, so it is lighter and less expensive. It is not for heavy duty stacking, but it holds two bottles securely and passes our in-house six-face drop test from 1.2 m with the bottle loaded.

Can I get a wood-grain finish on a rigid board box?

Yes. We print or laminate wood-grain patterns onto specialty paper, then wrap it over greyboard. The grain is consistent across every box, which is hard to achieve with real wood veneer.

What insert options work in a faux wood box?

Velvet trays, EVA foam, blister, and paper mould all work. The insert is cut to hold the bottle at four points and checked for movement. Our control tolerance is plus or minus 1 mm on the insert.
